YRCT Chair, Lorne Thomson has been monitoring the weather in Yeovil for some years now and we thought you'd be interested in some interesting stats from last year's rainfall records.
The historical average annual rainfall for Yeovil is 800.00mm but last year we saw 1,087.00mm which is a staggering 36% increase.
Driest month - June with only 3.6mm
July - had 26 consecutive days with no precipitation
We had 5 months with rainfall over 100mm
Wettest month - December 183.00mm
Wettest Day - 4th December 59.3mm
Highest rainfall intensity - a very impressive 384mm/per hour on 1/11/23
These statistics confirm the predicted changes arising from climate breakdown and are already exceeding some of the parameters forecast from higher average temperature levels, e.g. the met office prediction for the wettest winter day is for 55mm with a 4 Celsius increase. Most climate scientists now believe that 1.5c is no longer achievable but we are heading for an average global temperature rise of 2.5 - 3.0 degrees!!
The graphs below show the annual rainfall and December rainfall for Yeovil.
