If you live near Abbey Manor Park, this week, you may have spotted that we've been busy creating a new hibernaculum next to one of the ponds. Just in time for the cold weather, this habitat refuge will provide a safe place for amphibians, reptiles, small mammals and insects seeking somewhere to hibernate over winter.
To build it, we first had a shallow scrape dug with a digger which was then filled in with stone allowing for plenty of nooks and crannies. on top of this, we piled large pieces of timber, followed by smaller pieces, before topping it with soil, which we then seeded with wildflowers.
Well done to our team and volunteers who helped build this brilliant new wildlife refuge.
